Be aware of 'banks' and 'crypto companies' calling you to supposedly ask you about fraudulent transactions...it's a scam, although a very sophisticated one.

Last night I was texted and called by an alleged 'crypto company', by someone who had access to the fact I had an old account there. I called back the toll free number and was walked through an AI voice menu, where I had to input my birthday to reach a human 'customer service assistant'.

A man the came on the phone and asked about an email change to my profile, which I said was fraudulent.

The 'tell' came when he asked if I owned any crypto anywhere else.

That's when I knew it was a scam.

Another scam, is a call from your bank, asking if fraudulent transactions are yours.

They all sound very professional, and sometimes even have AI voice menus as well.

They ask if large fake transactions are yours, and then fish for information.

I feel stupid initially falling for the 'crypto' scam, but my excuse is it was very sophisticated.

    But now I fight back.

My technique when I get a human on the line is to pause, and say', "Hold on a minute while I activate my voice recognition software so we can identify you."

    They usually hang up.

Deal with a Credit Union instead of a bank. They are local, easier to deal with, have better perks and fewer, if any fees.
