President Joe Biden loves America’s taxpayers’ monies and sales of US securities to fund his wars. This week he is proving that once again as his administration is expected to request yet another $100 billion by the end of the week.
When Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, the Biden administration threw its unwavering support behind Israel.
It was predictable that Biden would ask Congress for money for Israel conflict with Hamas in Gaza, but of course, the Biden administration cannot keep issues separate and contained.
Biden is expected to ask Congress for an additional $100 billion to cover a supplemental package for defense aid not just for Israel, but for Ukraine and Taiwan.
As earlier reported by CDM, immediately from the moment that Hamas struck innocent and helpless victims in Israel on Oct. 7, and news reached Europe, President Zelensky of Ukraine and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin were in Brussels for a meeting with representatives from 50 countries asking for Ukraine support. Both Zelensky and Austin compared Hamas to not just ISIS, but also to Putin.
Senator Ben Cardin, Democratic chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said on Tuesday that he has not yet seen a specific figure for the supplemental request, but would not be surprised if it was as large as $100 billion.
"I hope it's enough to get us through 2024," Cardin said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Cardin was insistent that the Senate would do it best to support Israel.
There is a question about where the House will stand on this issue because as of this publication, there is no Speaker of the House since Oct. 3 when Kevin McCarthy was ousted.
So far, Israel has asked for $10 billion. Israel already receives $3.8 billion annually from the US, under a 10-year agreement that began in 2016.
Congress has already approved $113 billion for security and humanitarian and economic aid to Ukraine since February 2022.
"We are going to do everything in our power to ensure the Senate delivers the support for Israel and the rest of the package. We intend to get the package the end of this week," the Senate's majority leader, Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, said on Tuesday.
Senator Mitch McConnell, the Senate’s top Republican, said he expected the request to include assistance for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan, and added that Republicans want the request to include "something serious" for the U.S. border.
Top Biden administration officials will hold a classified briefing on Wednesday for the Senate on the situation in Israel and Gaza.
Bloomberg first reported Biden was considering making a $100 billion request to Capitol Hill.
