Egyptian officials have decided to open the Rafah Gate Security crossing between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt border, albeit for only 20 humanitarian aid trucks, even though many more are lined up in a convoy inside Egypt waiting to enter Gaza.
President Joe Biden spoke with David Satterfied, his newly appointed Envoy to handle the humanitarian relief as a result of the Oct. 7 Israel-Hamas conflict.
On Air Force One, Biden made a statement to the media onboard saying negotiations have moved somewhat forward for now. He shared some details on what has been agreed to so far.
“Open the [Rafah] gate to let in 20 trucks through, and Satterfield is in Cairo to coordinate what is needed to get it down. [They have to] fill in the potholes to get the trucks through and [that] should take 8 hours,” said the president to reporters.
He predicted the truckers may move by “Friday,” he added.
