Don't Assume Republican Senators "Get It"

It's one thing to stay informed on politics today. Your middle school Civics teacher would point out that it's your duty to do so. The next level of engagement is to contact your elected congresspeople.

Why call or write to your senators in particular? Because it is they who will hold President Trump's fate in their hands once the Democrat-majority House almost certainly votes to impeach Trump for the alleged crime of seeking favor from the President Zelensky of Ukraine. Without re-litigating the entire case here, there is no smoking gun. The "whistleblower" is a partisan insider. This is Russiagate 2.0.

As you know, the House votes to impeach. Then it is the Senate trial that decides removal from office.

While several media outlets have downplayed the likelihood of that enough Republican senators would vote against the president to reach the threshold of 67, consider the facts. Even with majorities in all three branches of government until the 2018 midterm elections, enough RINOs and Never-Trumpers interfered to thwart the will of the people. Remember John McCain's thumbs-down. Recall Jeff Sessions recusing himself from the Russia probe. Harken back to Michigan Rep. Justin Amash switching from Republican to Independent.

If Adam Schiff's secretive coup attempt catches a lucky break or two, you can rest assured we will see wobbly Republican senators. Speaking of partisanship, if your senators are Democrats, there's no reason not to give them a piece of your mind. You pay their salary regardless of party.

Exactly HOW Do I Contact My Senators?

Click THIS LINK for an alphabetical-by-state list of your senators' telephone numbers, physical addresses, and websites. If you call, it makes sense to know what you're going to say. The chances of reaching your actual senators is of course infinitesimal, so a quick line making your position clear to a staffer (or voicemail) will suffice. A suggestion:

"Hello, my name is _______, I live in _________. I am calling to express my strong support for President Donald Trump. I want Senator _________ to know that he/she will not have my vote if he/she votes against the president in a Senate trial."

If you wish to include any pertinent personal information such as your armed services history or campaign donations to the senator, do so, but keep the message clear: it's about support for the president.

If you are concerned with how to address a senator in writing, please see THIS TUTORIAL. The graphics are a bit corny, but it's accurate and easy to follow.

    Going Forward

CD Media will identify senators we believe are on the fence about impeachment and focus efforts accordingly. More to come.

Please pick up the phone or a pen. You'll feel better for taking action.
