In an astounding move, the Department of Justice decided today to drop the investigation of Andrew McCabe, the former Deputy Director of the FBI. McCabe was fired in March of 2018 by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions due to leaks to media and multiple lies under oath about leaking said information. His firing came two days shy of his retirement.
The leaks concerned Hillary Clinton's email traffic to and from her infamous private server.
Appearing on CNN, McCabe said that the decision was akin to the lifting of a "horrific black cloud that's been hanging over me and my family for almost the last two years."
One upsetting part for many citizens is that McCabe has admitted to lying under oath. From a NY Post article on January 2:

Shortly before the 2016 election, The Journal reported that an FBI investigation was underway involving then-candidate Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation.
McCabe in May 2017 denied that he was the source of the leak — but later fessed up, angering bureau investigators who had been spinning their wheels trying to identify the source of the leak. The documents, which the FBI released in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, include transcripts of McCabe’s conversations with investigators, who were frustrated after wasting their time on the probe.

The other troubling aspect: by most conservative lights, there is an utter lack of judicial consistency between Trump supporters and Democrats. Trump confidante Roger Stone will receive a reduced sentence for a very similar crime--lying under oath--but will see jail time, for a case with far less significant consequences. General Michael Flynn, who was accused of lying under oath, still awaits sentencing. Flynn is currently seeking to withdraw the guilty plea in his case after learning in November 2019 that FBI agents altered his testimony.
The DOJ announced today that they have assigned a special prosecutor to Flynn's case, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, Jeffrey Jensen.
Both sides of the political divide are concerned about the DOJ's move. Democratic pundits are already claiming executive interference, and Republicans, or at least Trump supporters, have expressed concerns that the case is being prosecuted at all and hasn't been dropped.
In all, a busy day at the DOJ. As for AG Bill Barr's comments yesterday exhorting President Trump to cease commentary about ongoing federal lawsuits, Trump has not tweeted about either the Flynn or McCabe decisions. Yet.
