The U.S. Supreme Court lifted a partial block on the "remain in Mexico" policy imposed by the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The ruling is considered a victory for President Donald Trump and his administration's efforts to reduce the flow of hundreds of thousands of people from Central America into the United States.

Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) is a 2018 policy enacted by the administration in accordance with powers granted by the Congress in the 1990's. It obviously falls within the powers granted the executive under the current understanding of the US constitution. Left wing judges on Federal circuit courts in America have been filing injunctions like the one that was overturned today in an effort to undercut the Trump Presidency.

Mexico has established refugee camps on the southern side of the US/Mexico border were as many as 60 thousand refugees await the resolution of their asylum cases. The holding facilities in Mexico are not ideal but the alternative, which has been the norm for the past 30 years, is to simply release the asylum seekers into the United States with a promise to show up at court. Too often the refugees simply disappear into some friendly part of America and "live in the shadows" as illegal aliens.

The MPP and other policies combined with improved and new border wall has succeeded in significantly reducing the number illegal border crossings. In the current environment of COVID-19 pandemic the importance of border security is front of mind in all Americans. Today was not the day to open our border to asylum seekers fleeing the virus or anything else.
