While Democrats have come together to praise Joe Biden’s pick to be his running mate, a Republican is also happy about his choice.  President Donald Trump said Harris was his “number one pick.”

Speaking from the White House podium, Trump said he was “a little surprised,” by Biden’s choice. He said he was more “surprised than anything else, because she did so poorly, many people did much better than her in the primaries.”  Trump continued that because of her poor voter turnout, that in itself is like a poll.  Harris was one of the first viable candidates to drop out of the race because of her low fundraising numbers.  She also faced criticism because of her record as California’s Attorney General.  While she was running, her views shifted significantly to the left, but while she is a woman of color, she is viewed as either not progressive enough, or too progressive by many within her own party.  The flip-flopping caused Trump’s campaign to think of a new nickname for the Democratic ticket, dubbing them “Slow Joe and Phony Kamala.”

Trump continued he believes Harris is his dream candidate in a tweet, writing, .@KamalaHarris started strong in the Democrat Primaries, and finished weak, ultimately fleeing the race with almost zero support. That’s the kind of opponent everyone dreams of!” Harris dropped out of the Democrat primary in December of 2019.

The Republican Party has also been quick to comment on Biden's choice, pointing to her liberal policies that fit the far-left’s agenda.  GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in an interview with Fo News that Harris is a “California liberal who supports AOC’s Green New Deal,” and that if you vote for their ticket, the two will “raise taxes on 82% of Americans and end our energy independence.”  The GOP says the Biden-Harris ticket is the “most extreme ticket in history.”
