The vice presidential debate is a chance for the running mate to reinforce their party’s presidential ticket, and take some swipes at their opponent. And now, as Biden’s choice for his running partner has finally been revealed, political pundits are already pinning the current Vice President with who could potentially be the new one. But for Mike Pence, it is a stage and a date he looks forward to.
On October 7th, Mike Pence will debate Kamala Harris. But if there was any speculation that Pence might be nervous to take on Harris, who the media is cheering for being a prosecutor and already stating that she has great debate skills, he doesn’t seem phased. In an interview with Sean Hannity Wednesday night, Pence said, “I can’t wait” when asked about the challenge.
Pence said that Harris has taken on the radical left agenda, even though she may be well-prepared. Pence said, “I think she is a skilled debater, but I can't wait to get to Salt Lake City and be on the stage - whether to compare Joe Biden's nearly 50 years in public life, the agenda of the radical left, the agenda that she's embraced throughout her political career -- with the results of this president and this administration.”
Harris, in her first appearance with Joe Biden on Wednesday in Delaware, said, “We don’t have to accept the failed government of Donald Trump and Mike Pence,” already making sure to bring her counterpart’s name to the front of the news cycle. Harris said that President Trump, after inheriting a strong economy from Obama and Biden, has “run the economy into the ground.”
While Black leaders pressured Biden to choose a woman of color as his running mate if he wanted to win the November election, Pence has been quick to talk about his administration’s effect on the community. Pence said, "Joe Biden and Kamala Harris come from a party that's been talking about helping African-Americans for decades. This is a president who, because of the policies we advanced, we actually saw the lowest unemployment ever recorded for African-Americans.”
Pence also said that Biden and Harris would cut law enforcement at a time where liberal-led cities are in chaos. Harris, who praised the work from Black Lives Matter in her speech and spoke about a new America, has compared law enforcement to the KKK. Pence said because of their “radical left agenda,” the choice “could not be clearer.”
