With just a few days until October, there may be a serious October Surprise or the upcoming election. After months of US Attorney Durham investigating the origin of the Russian investigation during and after the 2016 election, there has already been one indictment, and lawmakers are hinting that there may be more on the way.
Under fire is former FBI Director Andrew McCabe for potentially purposely withholding information from the FISA courts in order to obtain a warrant. This misuse of power is being investigated not only by the Justice Department, but from the Judiciary Committee. In particular, the Committee is investigating the origin of the Steele Dossier, and how it was used as an official document to apply for FISA warrants.
In a letter released by the Judiciary Committee from the Department of Justice, the American people now know that Steele's dossier main sub-source is thought to be a Russian spy. But worse, the FBI knew the individual was a spy and had already done a counterintelligence investigation on them.
Graham said, "In light of this newly declassified information, I will be sending the FISA Court the information provided to inform them how wide and deep the effort to conceal exculpatory information regarding the Carter Page warrant application was in 2016 and 2017."
And moreover, Graham wants those in the FBI to be held accountable. He wrote, "A small group of individuals in the Department of Justice and FBI should be held accountable for his fraud against the court. I do not believe they represent the overwhelming majority of patriotic men and women who work at the Department of Justice and FBI."
In a press release, Graham said the main concern is the FBI's failure to tell the FISA court that the sub-source was a Russian spy, and therefore, deliberately misused their power.
