Parents in Westport, CT are wondering why the Chairman of the Board of Education will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America.
Below is a comment from a recent board meeting aired during the public comment period by a concerned father.
Today is the second session of this Board of Education, and again, we did not hear the Chairman of this Board recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
I acknowledge that as American citizens we have the right to express our opinions freely and nobody can force us to recite anything. However, when it comes to our elected representatives, especially the ones in charge of setting the educational policies of our Town, we have the right to demand an explanation.
As parents of the children affected by the decisions you make, we do not understand why pledging allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to our Republic, is so difficult.
Do you have a problem stating that our Nation is “indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all?“; or do you think that by reciting the Pledge you would be unfaithful to another Oath of Allegiance of which we are not aware of?
Are you loyal to our Country or to an undisclosed Foreign Power? Do you agree with the fundamental principles of America, or do you want to destroy our system to rebuild it in the image of a socialist nation like China?
Are you here to defend the best interest of our children? or to INDOCTRINATE them as a way of making an anti-American agenda a reality…
As you can see, there are many questions. So I am respectfully asking the Chairman of the Board to make public the reasons why she is not willing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
