The finality of the 2022 primary season sets off America to focus on the November 2022 general election. At stake on the federal level is which parties take control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and then onward to Joe Biden’s next two years which leads into the 2024 presidential campaign kicking off in early 2023.
Just another endless cycle of American politics with all the drama in-between.
But, not without reporting tonight on New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Delaware in the final stages of the 2022 primary calendar.
First of all, there was not a lot of fanfare in Delaware’s races on Tuesday other than President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden returning to Delaware to vote.
Alternatively, in New Hampshire’s Granite State, there has been more volatile politics.
Incumbent Republican Governor Chris Sununu won the GOP primary and will face Democrat Tom Sherman in November, who was unchallenged in the democratic primary.
But, GOP U.S. Senate candidate Don Bolduc, a retired Army brigadier general who ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in 2020, is leading in the Republican Senate primary, at the time of this reporting.
Bolduc has shown little ability to raise money pulling in less than $600,000 by August 24 as compared to Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan’s $31.4 million, who won the democratic nomination on Tuesday with an overwhelming margin of over 93%.
In referring to Bolduc, “He’s not a serious candidate. He’s really not,” said Republican Gov. Chris Sununu to WGIR in New Hampshire. “If he were the nominee, I have no doubt we would have a much harder time trying to win that seat back. So, I don’t take him seriously as a candidate. I don’t think most people do.”
The GOP Establishment has dumped millions of dollars in the race to defeat Buldoc who they see as a threat. Buldoc is a 'grassroots' candidates who says he will not be controlled by corporate lobbyists.
Sununu endorsed Bolduc’s opponent Morse, who was trailing Bolduc at this time, just days before before New Hampshire’s primary.
A more news worthy race in New Hampshire is the Republican primary in the 1st Congressional District pitting Republicans Matt Mowers and Karoline Leavitt.
Both worked for Trump – Mowers on his 2016 campaign and in the State Department, and Leavitt in the White House press shop. Leavitt won the primary and will be competing against Democratic incumbent Chris Pappas.
And, in Rhode Island for the finality of the season -
Incumbent Gov. Dan McKee is the expected winner of the democratic nomination for Rhode Island governor and will face republican gubernatorial candidate Ashley Kalus in November. McKee was elevated from lieutenant governor in 2021 after former Gov. Gina Raimondo became President Joe Biden’s Commerce secretary. The last Republican governor of Rhode Island was Don Carcieri, who served from 2003 to 2011.
Incumbent David Cicilline won the democratic primary in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District. Cicilline had served as impeachment manager during former President Trump’s second impeachment trial. Cicilline will face Republican Allen Waters in November. Both ran unopposed in their respective primaries.
In the Rhode Island’s 2nd congressional district, Seth Magaziner, the state’s treasurer, won the democratic nomination and will face Republican Allan Fung in November.
