During the US-Africa Business Forum this week, Joe Biden announced a plan for $8 billion in taxpayer dollars to be used to shut down coal-fired energy plants in South Africa and replace them with far less efficient green energy resources.

Rather than helping South Africa develop its energy infrastructure, the Biden administration is looking to destroy it and have U.S. taxpayers foot the bill. Not only are green energy sources not as efficient as coal, but Europe is a shining example of how inefficient green energy alternatives really are. As the continent faces a bitterly cold winter, many European countries that have relied on Russian natural gas resources and green energy have recently admitted to needing more coal and oil energy infrastructure, not more green energy sources.

South Africa needs a sustainable energy source, not unreliable wind and solar power. It is a region already consistently plagued with blackouts. And U.S. taxpayers should not be paying for sham energy projects abroad when millions at home are struggling to feed their families and heat their homes due to Biden's incessant money printing, which has caused the highest inflation in a generation. With the addition of the $8 billion for South Africa, U.S. taxpayers are now responsible for $94 billion in clean energy initiatives around the world while they are being crushed under soaring utility rates at home.

In a country that has long struggled to have a reliable energy infrastructure, it would be disastrous to replace what little reliable energy it does have with something as unreliable and inefficient as green energy alternatives. With coal providing energy for more than 80% of the country, South Africa is not only a major consumer of coal but also a significant exporter of steam coal. The loss of the coal industry would widely affect the country's economy and will limit or end altogether what has been a reliable source of income for many. Bad things happen when people's livelihoods are taken away. Ending the use of coal in South Africa would be catastrophic to its economy and also to its citizens.

People took to Twitter to express their outrage at Biden's latest break with reality. Political commentator Ian Miles Cheong put it simply and sarcastically when he tweeted, "Print more money."

Meanwhile, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) reminded us that Biden has yet again made a promise that he does not have the authority to honor.

News Cycle Media's Jon Nicosia couldn't even be bothered to use words to describe the ridiculousness of Biden's pledge, using only clown emojis to express his thoughts.

It truly is a sign of the dire state of Biden's priorities when Congress has to add an additional $45 billion to Biden's proposed military budget while the President continuously prints money and gives it away abroad. More than $100 billion has been provided to Ukraine to support its war efforts against Russia, and now $8 billion is being promised to South Africa not to fix its struggling energy infrastructure but to destroy what little it does have. Meanwhile, at home, millions of Americans are facing their own economic and energy struggles, but Biden isn't printing any money for them. It is indeed, as Sky News host Rita Panahi said, "Weapon[s] grade lunacy."
