Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his family have decided that the 39th president after consultation with his medical team and family will receive hospice care at home, the Carter Center announced Saturday.
At the age of 98, Jimmy Carter is the oldest living former president having served from 1977 until 1981. He and his family have decided after several hospital stays, former President Carter is going to forego future medical care.
The Carter Center, which was created in 1982, released a statement.
"After a series of short hospital stays, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention," the Center’s statement read.
"He has the full support of his family and his medical team," the statement added. "The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers."
