Speaker Mike Johnson Releases Jan. 6 Footage And Senator Mike Lee Calls For An Investigation Into the January 6 Committee

Newly elected U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Friday announced that he is releasing the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill security footage online for general public to review, and subsequently,  U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) has called for an investigation into the Jan. 6 Committee itself. 

"When I ran for Speaker, I promised to make accessible to the American people the 44,000 hours of video from Capitol Hill security taken on January 6, 2021," the Speaker stated in a statement obtained by Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman. "Truth and transparency are critical.."

"Today, we will begin immediately posting video on a public website and move as quickly as possible to add to the website nearly all of the footage, more than 40,000 hours. In the meantime, a public viewing room will ensure that every citizen can view every minute of the videos uncensored," Johnson added. "This decision will provide millions of Americans, criminal defendants, public interest organizations, and the media an ability to see for themselves what happened that day, rather than having to rely upon the interpretation of a small group of government officials."

Certain precautions will be taken to prevent retaliation.

"Processing will involve blurring the faces of private citizens on the yet unreleased tapes to avoid any persons from being targeted for retaliation of any kind and segregating an estimated 5% of the videos that may involve sensitive security information related to the building architecture,” Johnson added. 

With Johnson's decision made, U.S. Senator Mike Lee, (R-Utah), has now called for an investigation into the House Jan. 6  Committee for selectively ignoring the evidence. 

"Why didn’t Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger ever refer to any of these tapes?" Lee wrote on X. "Maybe they never looked for them. Maybe they never even questioned their own narrative. Maybe they were just too busy selectively leaking the text messages of Republicans they wanted to defeat."

Cheney rebuked Lee publicly and responded: "Hey @BasedMikeLee - heads up. A nutball conspiracy theorist appears to be posting from your account."

Cheney and Kinzinger were the only Republicans on the committee and chosen by then Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Pelosi wouldn't allow two of the members chosen by then-House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, (R-CA)., to participate. So, McCarthy then withdrew all of the GOP members he had chosen.

At the time, McCarthy said Pelosi's action represented “an egregious abuse of power." 

Pelosi later selected Cheney and Kinzinger, the only two Republicans to vote to empanel the Jan. 6 Select Committee. 

But, there is more to this story than just the members on the panel chosen by Pelosi to sit on the Jan. 6 Committee. 

The Jan 6 Select Committee staff director was David Buckley, one of the 50 plus former intelligence officials who signed a 2020 letter falsely claiming that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation, as earlier reported by CDM. 

And, the producer of Jan. 6 Select Committee production was none other than former ABC News President James Goldston, who had previously been a British documentary produce, as earlier reported by CDM.  

Unlike other Select Committees where evidence from all sides was allowed to testify, the Jan. 6 Committee produced a program that in the documentary industry is called a “point of view” documentary.
