Australia is a federation, like the US. Each state has it's own government, like the US. The Federal Government has limited powers to interfere in State matters, like the US. The Federal Government is conservative at the moment - like the US. The Australian version of the Republican Party is at the helm.

This incident was in Victoria - a woketurd state in the South-East that is run by hard-left libtards, like the Democrats running CA or MA or IL. The Victorian State Government is locking people in their homes and destroying small business, like the Democrats do, even though only 500 people have died from 4.5 million in the state. A death rate from COVID of 0.0008% of the population.

The bit about forced immunization is not happening. The idea was rejected by the Federal (conservative) Government.

And guns aren't banned in Australia, there are about 4 million guns in the hands of private owners in Australia as of 2020 (across a population 25 million). Guns were heavily over-regulated after the Port Arthur massacre, but you can still buy them. You need a licence and you have to jump through hoops, particularly if you live in the cities. If you live in the country, owning a gun is normal.

Speaking as an Australian citizen, I'd like to assure you that Oscar's explanation is fundamentally correct, though I do have one quibble with it. The description of the Australian Federal government is only nominally conservative; when in fact their leadership and policies are soft Left. You could think of them as RINOs and be pretty close to the truth. A notable exception to this is Peter Dutton; a name in Australian politics well worth knowing.

As a fun little aside, that same Victorian government that arrested this pregnant woman for a facebook post is the same government that, in defiance of its own laws and health regulations, permitted a copycat "Black Lives Matter" protest to take place, attracting a purported crowd of 10,000. This event took place two weeks before the current Victoria outbreak of COVID-19 that is responsible for the vast majority of those 500 fatalities. The demographics of those "protesters" overlaps with near perfection the virus outbreak localities. Sadly, as in most places in the world, the deceased are the extremely elderly and not the rioter-marxists who infected them.

What Oscar doesn't say is that the license procedure in Australia is strictly "may issue", where you have to provide a "good reason" for owning a / each firearm - with "self defense" being explicitly not a good reason. I also recall reading that in order to apply to get a license, you also had to open up your entire medical records for the authorities to review. After all that, then they decide whether or not to allow you to own a firearm. And when he refers to "guns", he is also excluding handguns and all semiautomatic rifles/shotguns. I even recall that approving a lever action shotgun by the government resulted in a major controversy.

Of course, the licensing procedure also makes sure that the government knows who owns what firearm(s) for ease of implementing future restrictions or confiscations (or mandatory "buy backs", if you prefer).

Having been there I found the original story to be hard to believe for Australia as a whole, but your post seems to me to be SPOT ON, thank you for your excellent post and clarification. Australia, like America has it's west, north, east, and south 😉 I've loved the Australian Conservatives when they get voted in ... how many times do people have to figure out that the political LEFT are IDIOTS? I speak for my country as well as yours. I remember the Australian gun debate, I was EXACTLY afraid of what we see now. Infuriating. Remember this one word, FREEDOM.
