The United States Air Force Academy, my alma mater, has suffered from an obvious leadership problem for some time.

During my 30th reunion several years ago, my classmates and I noticed a marked change at our beloved institution - the focus on training warriors to defend the nation was gone. In its place was a focus on buildings, big athletics, and 'diversity' (we came to find out later except diversity in political ideas).

I confronted then Superintendent Lt Gen Michelle Johnson at the reunion about the lack of discipline, the lack of focus on a warrior culture, even the lack of respect for alumni walking the Academy grounds, and she said, 'We don't believe in hazing'. This was such a cowardly answer to her obvious deliberate destruction of the mission of the institution. I was shocked. Prisoners of war at the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam conflict stated the discipline at the Academy and the 'fourth class system' helped them weather years in captivity. I wrote this story following this encounter - The United States Air Force Academy Doesn't Train Warriors Anymore.

USAFA embarrassed itself shortly after with a horrendous parade march in front of the President of the United States, where cadets couldn't even march in a straight line, a result of lack of discipline and training. I wrote this article after the incident - Air Force Academy Has Leadership Problem.

I was then approached by the Academy, through a classmate via a Facebook chat. This classmate had obviously been talking with Academy leadership and had been asked to contact me.

It seems the Academy wanted to make a deal.

Incoming Superintendent Lt Gen Jay Silvera wanted to invite me to his house for dinner. They wanted me to give speeches at the Academy. They promised I would 'sell a lot of books'.

    But there was a catch.

I couldn't write anything negative anymore about the Air Force Academy.

    The corruption stunk.

I refused. The offer was immediately withdrawn.

    This was bribery.

Silvera went on to infamously virtue signal on steroids about alleged 'racial attacks' at the Academy Prep school (which were later exposed as having been committed by the accuser himself) in a speech that garnered him much love from the 'woke' Obama core in Washington. Knowing what we know now about the Deep State, maybe this prep school cadet was instructed to do so by a higher-ranking individual? Asking for a friend.

Today my classmate, Lt Gen Richard Clark holds the reigns at the Academy as its Superintendent. He has served a distinguished career as a commissioned officer of the President of the United States.

Today we also have Air Force Academy instructors openly advocating teaching critical race theory at the Academy. We have books from George Takei being distributed to incoming cadets, a work that demonizes the very country they are sworn to serve. We have a large number of cadets telling grads they wished they had not come to Air Force due to the current culture of victimization and racism against whites. We have parents saying they will not send their children to the Academy due to racism against whites.

This seems to be coming from the top down, judging by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Milley's recent comments that he 'wants to understand white rage'.

There is a difference between learning about your enemy and being indoctrinated with a political theory that destroys military cohesion and effectiveness.

How can future Air Force officers function and lead in the greatest Air Force in the world, when they are taught to hate the very country that hired them? How can they effectively lead white airman when they are taught to hate them?

Critical Race Theory is Marxism, pure and simple. It is meant to divide and conquer. It's the old tried and true tactic of the communist playbook, straight out of The Communist Manifesto.

General Clark is enabling a Maoist revolution within the institution he is supposed to cherish, protect, and make stronger.

I asked twice for an interview with General Clark. We told him it would be respectful and based on facts. An exchange of ideas if you will.

    He declined twice.

I told him this was cowardly. I told him he is betraying his oath by enabling this insidious ideology.

He replied my comments were not respectful.

In my view, his conduct is not becoming of an officer and is not 'respectful' to our children, the U.S. Air Force, USAFA, and the nation at large which he is sworn to protect, and put him in one of the most powerful positions in the world. For as quoted in the novel "Gods and Generals" of the Civil War, 'There is nothing closer to God than a General on a battlefield.'

P.S. - In my view, parents need to continue sending their sons and daughters to the service academies, in order to fight this ideology and rebuild from the ground up.

I used to work for Michelle Johnson. She was and is an unabashed lesbian, married to an unabashed gay man, also in the military. This was before "Don't ask, don't tell." She despises straight white males and nuclear families. She is an empty vessel, groomed and promoted based on her gender, her homosexuality, and her willingness to cover up Clinton's misdeeds in which she was VERY involved. She was one of his military staff and even carried the nuke codes for him. She was an incompetent pilot and an incompetent Commander. He chief accomplishment in the military was writing her own promotion packages and tacking into the political winds as needed to keep moving up the chain of command. In 21 years, I never met so loathsome an Air Force officer. I am not alone in this opinion. For many years, there was private Facebook group dedicated to documenting her buffoonery--until that group disappeared one day. Draw your own conclusions. Michelle Johnson was and is a degrade to all military officers.

AFA used to be well-respected for its academics and discipline in military matters. No longer. We do have treasonous and poisonous "leadership" at the top that needs immediate removal. All un-American commanders must be purged as soon as possible. Our society will not and can not tolerate these disloyal "Americans". They need to be cut off immediately and no retirement. Send them packing. Get 'em out, now!

    Patriot+Party

Well what do you expect from AA promotions. They destroy any institution they happen to infest.

    James Wass

Navy retiree here. I saw the evolution of language and the disintegration of trust, leadership, and followership through a 20 year career and now 28 years of retirement. The military has been used to drive positive social change in the past. Sadly any tool is agnostic. The military is well-capable also of facilitating social destruction as we see today at the highest levels.

"...my classmate, Lt Gen Richard Clark holds the reigns at the Academy as its Superintendent. He has served a distinguished career as a commissioned officer..."

    That's polite. Is it true?

I was part of a USAFA-coordinated academy tour in 2018 after Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria's impassioned 2017 anti-racist speech to every member of the academy over a hate crime committed against one of the cadets...which later proved to have been an outright hoax. Even after it was confirmed as a hoax the tour guide, a member of the academy administration staff, bragged about that speech. I was polite and kept my mouth shut out of respect for the academy grad in our group who had arranged the visit, but even today I can remember how disgusted I was of the ineptitude of not only the original event, but that the academy had taken the event on as a badge of honor.

    Decline to State

This year my child at USAFA was pulled along with other students into a "struggle session". All the students went through it is groups. My child's group of 40-50 students was a mix of races and many of their black friends were there. An AA senior student led the session while a middle aged white officer observed. No doubt cowed in fear for his career. The instructor demanded that students recount and discuss the racist events they personally had seen or been a part of attending the academy. No hands went up. She continued to angrily demand someone volunteer this information. Still no hands went up. So she started going around to the whitest kids and demanding they answer. My child and another were called on first and said they had observed none. She was angry with that answer. Next she called on my child's black friends who said the same thing.. They had never seen a racism at the school. This is how the meeting went. A social justice freak of a cadet leading a meeting while career officer sits and does nothing protecting their career.

Combine this with the rampant theft by cadets in the athletic department and the rampant cheating that went on during online classes and it is hard to imagine the core values once expected are really being met at this institution. And do not get me started on the easing of physical requirements and trials for cadets. The academy is soft.

My respect for the USAFA and the military in general is not as high as it was.

Whites are staying away from military service now, so their plan is working.

    clayusmcret

BK, obama was the first president to seriously zero in on the fact that the US military was a majority pro-American, conservative voting block; and decided to do something about it. Clinton had done the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” move, but that was only to appease his base rather than to make a major change to the military. obama was the one who truly opened the military to the entire LGBT movement with the intent of changing its voting dynamics from the inside. He knew democrats could never take the military vote majority without it. Trump tried to stop it, but there were too many of the obama-backing senior officers/enlisteds in place already positioned to stop his efforts. Best he could do was slow it down and he needed a second administration to follow through to any measurable success.

Today’s military is not being trained to fight and kill the enemy. It is being groomed as a safe zone for those suckered into the military with the LGBT mindset. And WGen* Milley has China and Russia’s complete endorsement.

*WGen = Woke General – the US military’s newest rank

    SherlockHomeless

General Clark sounds like another Pentagon Pacifist.

    Tom

That's when I quit buying their tickets.

    Teflon93

Todd, USAFA is a club and always has been. You graduated a few years before I did. By the time my class marched up the ramp, the institution had already split into two cadet wings: one for the children of serving and retired high-ranking officers and quite another for those of us who didn’t have such pull in the Air Force. It was we who were hazed and targeted for disenrollment; our attrition was their mission. It was already a deeply corrupt place before Clinton and Obama did their hatchet jobs on officer promotions and finished the work begun long before. About the only thing we learned there was fortitude—-you couldn’t make it to the end in spite of those bastards otherwise. In some ways, The Zoo is more honest now than it was in our day. Now a dirtbag hack like Silvera can drive two Firsties to suicide and no one says a word. Back then, they would have simply lied about it and buried the story with the cadets.

    Deployed Too Long

Hey China! Hey Russia! Hey Al Quaida and ISIS! Look what is going on within the hallowed grounds of our military academies. I've served with the best our nation produced from said academies, and now disagree with the premise that sending our sons and daughters there is the solution to rectifying the insidious influence of Marxist ideology and teaching. Instead, place cameras in all the classrooms and expose these military educators for what they have become... pawns for the deconstruction of our great nation. Don't send another young impressionable soul to be poisoned by these PC social engineers. Taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent.
The so-called systemic issues within our military do not exist. The label is fabricated and only being tossed about to divide the force. Stop supporting our service academies until we Americans have total and unfettered transparency and accountability for what is being taught within such historically noble institutions.

    Steve Canyon

Having gone through F-15E RTU with Jay Silvera and then watched him at Seymour in the 334th as Captains, he was a game player then; bumped into him later at Al Udeid as an O-6 when he was the Vice at Lakenheath, he was still the game player. Doesn’t surprise me how he treated you with the dinner or how he handled the whole race incident at USAFA. Like the vast majority of GOs, he’s goes where the wind blows him. Tonto is a political animal. What Americans need to understand is, gone are the days of the Cold War generals like Curtis LeMay. We are now “protected” by “Rise of the Woke Generals”. Tonto was part of that truly destructive leadership. I’d almost put Fingers Goldfein in there too. Wood, you need to write that book and they set this country up for its downfall (don’t ask Mike Worden). We are now in a fight for our very survival thanks to the likes of Tonto Silvera and Fingers Goldfein.

    Sam-I-Am

I have friends who graduated from the AFA, some taught there. They are ashamed of what that institution has become.

    niggawiggawambam

We are being destroyed from within! The democrats and many RINO's are openly and knowingly acting as foreign agents, working from the inside to disarm our military defenses. It's a long game and many actually KNOW their role and play it willingly. Others are unwitting fools, disregarding the end results of their treasonous acts today!

    Geoffrey Britain

The author rightly asks, "How can future Air Force officers function and lead in the greatest Air Force in the world, when they are taught to hate the very country that hired them? How can they effectively lead white airman when they are taught to hate them?" but doesn't offer an answer. That is I suspect because of having difficulty in accepting the whole truth of what is happening.

Air Force leadership KNOWS that they are profoundly harming future Air Force officer's ability to function and lead. Destroying America's future readiness is the goal and purpose of exposing cadets to CRT poison. CRT is Marxism with a racial overtone. Marxism is a mortal enemy of the Constitution.

In betraying their oath to defend the Constitution from its enemies and supporting Marxist indoctrination, they are guilty of treason.

    ClownCountry

We need to stop being surprised when we see treasonous actions from a criminal regime. This is exactly what one should expect from a country that is led by a criminal who was not elected by The People.

    CDMedia

Geoffrey: The author fully realizes what is happening and is working hard against it, unlike many others.

    top cat

A regular A.F. grunt seldom sees an officer. Unless he does not write home. I was glad to have veteran NCOs.

    Yasmina

By another three and a half years, the American military may very well be completely destroyed as a war fighting organization. Even if a conservative president is fairly elected in 2024.

You'd have to start over from scratch...get rid of 3/4 of the diversity culture people who are in all the strong positions in the current military.

    Marc Sabin

This opinion piece is confirmation of my worst expectations of how bad the situation is at the US service academies. The comments to the opinion piece are even more telling as to how bad the situation has become, especially the one from a parent (See the comments by "Declined to State") who related what happened to her cadet and his or her associates this past summer.

There should be little doubt that the imposition of Critical Race Theory is being pushed from the very top of the Biden Administration. Remarks by Gen Milley and the appointment of an extremist Diversity Advisor to Gen Austin are cogent evidence of the unfortunate reality.

I would ask what is the AOG doing to combat this egregious situation at USAFA? If they are not now in the fight against this sedition and subversion, what does it take to get them engaged? Is there a rationale that makes sense for grads to keep donating to the AOG if it is not willing to take a proactive stand against this insidious threat to the Academy, to the Air Force and to the nation?

For those who have not seen it, there is a Congressional Letter to the Superintendent of the USMA addressing the same issues at that institution. I doubt that the USNA is immune to the problem. Relatively recent remarks to the entire Navy by the CNO attest to the insidious activities within that branch of the service.

This situation is enraging to all who have taken the oath to defend the Constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. Fortunately there is a growing ground swell in the civilian world (parents are at the pointy end of this spear) against Critical Race Theory and that must be supported by citizens, in and out of uniform, throughout the country if this nation is to survive.

    Jeff Duncan

Marc: AOG will not act, they are worthless. Go to STARRS.us for an organization fighting CRT at the service academies.

    Zircon

I was a OTS grad,1971. Our military leadership that time in many instances were not pussies but not that smart. But they were very patriotic and that got many of us home. Today the patriotic aspect is diminished and the military is actually run by people not accustomed to threat from afar. Vietnam was a disgrace and that alone has caused our military decline in officer and NCO fierceness for decades by our political leaders. Rather than strengthen training and tactics with military members, technology has taken the place of it and now drones will some day be controlled by the space station!! The aliens want nothing to do with us they laugh at our stupidity.

    Chinch Bugg

Yes, I've said it before; The majority of flag officers are now just politicians who don't have to think about what costume they have to wear tomorrow.

    Vivian Kirby

American patriots need to pressure our elected representatives to replace "woke" anti-white racist military officers with patriotic officers! They must be made to swear an oath to protect the US Constitution and the American people if they are to hold high-ranking positions within our military and military academies

    Morton C . Mumma III

I am a third generation U.S. military officer, Army grandfather, Navy father, 30 year Air Force myself; two USMA grads, one USNA grad.
Reading these papers has horrified and disgusted me and I know my predecessors are vibrating in their graves, behind the Old Chapel at USMA and on a hill in Arlington.
I retired in 1978 as an O-6, but have had almost no contact with any active , reserve or guard component, so am immensely shocked at what seems to have happened to our Armed Forces.
I guessI should not be surprised, when I curse this present administration and our do-little Congress on an almost daily basis for the great harm and damage they are inflicting on our Nation..
May Biden, Harris , Schumer, Pelosi and their minions be damned through all eternity!

    I have a question:

Cadets are working their summer jobs sitting at desks answering phones and such. My cadet told me they all just sit there on their phones using social media or playing games. This struck me as unprofessional. Generations before them sat bored at those desks I assume. Why does everything have to be softer and more comfortable? Can't cadets handle sitting for a shift? Why not make the rule they can read a book or newspaper while they sit if there is nothing to be done? That would seem more educational.

    I would appreciate any feedback.

    Chief Page

Interesting article and many good points and concerns. However, as Lt Gen Rich Clark’s first Command Chief Master Sergeant, and serving for 36 Commanders, I will say this for the world to hear. Lt Gen Rich Clark is the farthest thing from being cowardly. This man, this warrior has done his time in the “box” over and over again. He is a go-to-war General not afraid to make a tough call…even if his leadership doesn’t approve. I have seen firsthand on his love for our beloved Air Force and its people from all genders, races, religions…walks of life. To call him “cowardly” is a low blow…especially from what I can understand as a “classmate.” That was like dropping a 2000lb JDAM on him and expecting him to now want to speak. I think its one thing to make an office call and ask the questions respectfully, but when you go public and call him a coward, he was able to sniff you and your agenda out before you had time to get your engines started. You failed YOUR mission. Reopen your preflight checklist and look at all the “bold items,” then reengage your process. You might, if you are lucky,, as a fellow classmate, gain audience with him. Cowardly? Take a look in the mirror.

    CDMedia

Chief: Sorry, we've been asking him for an interview for a year. He refused Twice. This was all in private. But you know that don't you. Sad excuse for an excuse.

    CDMedia

Chief: In addition, he is allowing a Marxist ideology to take over the institution. In our view, that is exactly what we said it was - betraying your oath, and not wanting to discuss it in public is also just what we said - cowardly.

    OLD GRAD

Critical Race Theory is Marxism, pure and simple.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THIS IN MORE DETAIL?

It is meant to divide and conquer. It’s the old tried and true tactic of the communist playbook, straight out of The Communist Manifesto.

DO YOU THINK THAT TEACHING CRT WILL MAKE THE CADETS MARXIST? WE LEARNED MARXISM AT USAFA AND IT DIDN'T MAKE US MARXIST. IN FACT IT MADE US UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE WERE FOOLED BY IT. ARE YOU SAYING THAT THE CADETS CAN BE FOOLED EASILY INTO BELIEVING A THEORY JUST BECAUSE THEY LEARN ABOUT IT?

General Clark is enabling a Maoist revolution within the institution he is supposed to cherish, protect, and make stronger.

I HOPE THIS IS HYPERBOLE. A MAOIST REVOLUTION WOULD MEAN THAT THE LOWEST CLASS WOULD OVERTHROW THE HIGHEST CLASS. SO WHEN 4-DEGREES ARE LIVING IN THE SUPE'S HOUSE AND TAKING PRIVATE JETS TO MEETINGS I WILL BELIEVE YOU. UNTIL THEN I THINK YOU MEANT THIS AS A HYPERBOLE. IF NOT, CAN YOU EXPAIN?
