    Hebrews 10:23

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

The beginning of time was significant, but why would God have given inspiration to man to pen it? We have the perfect Word of God, but why? Many say the pinnacle of the Christian life is to know God and make Him known. But starting in Genesis 2:15, God gives a simple instruction to “tend the garden.” Everything was completely made as God saw fit, and scripture says, “He took the man that he had made and settled him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.” There was some One before there was ever some thing, and this some One has always existed independently within the Triune God, complete and without need of anything or anyone else. That is really worth pondering. He did not have to create anything, yet the start of the Christian faith begins in Genesis 1, “In the beginning God created…” We see the Creator stepping out of the darkness breathing life into the “Little Blue Marble” we call Earth.

God established the instruction (tend the garden) for Adam and Eve to obey, and then he established one rule. He told them, “You may freely (unconditionally) eat of the fruit from every tree in the garden, but [only] from the tree of the knowledge (recognition) of good and evil you shall not eat, otherwise, on the day you eat from it, you shall most certainly die [because of your disobedience].”(Amplified Bible) Adam and Eve did not keep it, ushering in sub-idyllic existence for mankind: toil, pain, suffering, sickness, separation from God, and death. The fall of man now required a Savior. We needed deliverance and life. Hebrews tells us it was fitting for God, in order to bring many sons to glory, to make the Author and Founder of our salvation perfect through suffering, thereby making Him perfectly equipped for His office as High Priest so that He could extend His hand of deliverance to us. The true Church celebrates two Advents with one central theme --The King is Coming! He came to Earth to deliver us and will return for us. He will redeem it all.

Why is Hebrews 10:23 so poignant? This verse is such encouragement to the heart of the persecuted church by reminding them of historical and spiritual truths regarding all God had done for believers in the past. As Christians, we espouse that God is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. He is still faithful, hallelujah!

God is communicating through the author of the book of Hebrews this great encouragement that we can be unwavering in our faith and hope because He is faithful. Faithful is an attribute of God. God led and communed with great men of faith, such as Abraham, Moses, and David, and He would continue a faithful relationship with the persecuted church. Like the Apostle Paul, we can know and observe all things working together for the good of those who love God. Paul recognized and knew of completed acts of God in and through the saints before him. He had encouraged them to hope in the known God of faithfulness!

During the trials of the seasons of life, we can rest our hope in the known God of faithfulness. The entire blueprint with all the answers for how we are to live are in the living Word of God from Genesis to Revelation. When our eyes are fixed on the Author and Finisher of our Faith, we do not see problems; we see God’s promises!

“Even when hated, defaced, and attacked, the cross will rise, like Christ, unbroken.” -Benedict Kelly

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for your faithfulness to us. You foreknew us before you formed us in the womb. You knew we needed a Savior. Through mercy, you provided your Son, Christ Jesus, as the substitute for our sin and made a way for all who believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to know you by way of the Cross. We thank you for the birth of your Son, his death, burial, and resurrection. You came and walked among the Patriarchs, the commoner, and those deemed a nobody. You walk with us still by the power of your Holy Spirit. We expectantly wait for your return, when Love will come once again for His Bride. What a glorious day! May you find us faithful. Amen.

    What’s next?

Our peace and hope do not come from the absence (or presence) of anything but the presence of some One, that being Christ Jesus. During seasons of suffering, chaos, doubt, worry, anxiety, stress, fear, and deceit, is the true Church representing peace, hope, and joy, or do we succumb to the lies of the adversary?  Do we present courage and resolve in the journey? Are we hospitable to others who suffer? Do we do the right things because they are the right things to do? Do we serve humbly in these times with uncompromising truth and love? Do we provide real answers to root issues to help educate and train others in a Biblical worldview? Do we steward well the true gifts we have been given from the Lord? Rejoice! He knew the Patriarchs, called them, justified them, and glorified them. He will be faithful to us the same.
