CDM's ElectionWatch 2024 Host Christine Dolan interviews Frank Fahrenkopf about the CNN June 27, 2024 Presidential debate LIVE on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:30 am edt.

The two seasoned political junkies - Frank in politics, and Dolan as a seasoned political journalist - will explain the backstory so Americans understand the political context that was afoot leading up to CNN's debate on Thursday night.

Frank Fahrenkopf was State Chair of Nevada and President of the GOP State Chairs in 1980 when Dolan was at ABC News covering politics and served as CNN's Political Director in the 1980s. She has covered every presidential campaign since.

Frank took the reigns over at the Republican National Committee as National Chairman in January 1989. He served until January 1999. In 1987, Chairman Fahrenkopf and Democratic National Committee Chairman Paul Kirk established the Presidential Debate Commission which has not hosted all 33 U.S. presidential and vice-presidential debates since. The Commission has partnered with other entities to encourage debates in other countries, where democracy has been embraced.

In 2015, democratic political operatives like Ron Klain and Anita Dunn and her husband, Bob Baeur, who have served in the Obama and Biden White House administrations, have been focused on doing away with the Commission. Under the tutelage of the Annenberg Foundation at University of Pennsylvania, which is connected to the Biden Penn Center at the University of Pennsylvania, were determined to nuke the Commission's presidential debates by 2024.
