When Robert Unanue praised President Trump for what he was doing for the country, the backlash was immediate.  Calls to boycott Goya erupted across social media.  Despite what many said was a marketing disaster for the company, Goya has received support from the president, his daughter, the White House, and top lawmakers as the culture war wages on full steam ahead.

Ivanka Trump tweeted a photo of herself with a can of Goya black beans Tuesday, which refueled criticism from the left and caused some to call for an ethics probe.  The tweet said, “If it’s Goya, it has to be good.  Si es Goya, tiene que ser Bueno.” But the White House came to her defense this morning, issuing the statement, “Only the media and the cancel culture movement would criticize Ivanka for showing her personal support for a company that has been unfairly mocked, boycotted and ridiculed for supporting this administration - one that has consistently fought for and delivered for the Hispanic community.”

President Trump also praised the company this morning, noting that the brand is doing better than ever despite calls to tear it down from Trump critics.  He wrote, “.@GoyaFoods is doing GREAT.  The Radical Left smear machine backfired, people are buying like crazy!”

Robert Unanue refused to apologize over his remarks at the White House, and said the pushback has been a suppression of free speech.  He noted that he had been to the White House under the Obama administration, and there was no outcry when he had kind words to say about the former president.  Unanue is supported not only by politicians, as Casey Harper from Virginia started a GoFundMe page to buy Goya Foods products and give them to food pantries.  So far, the page has already raised $250,000.
