Former FBI Director James Comey will appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions from lawmakers about the origin of the Russia investigation. Senator Lindsey Graham, who is the chairman of the committee, hinted that his members won’t hold back with their questions.
Graham said, "The day of reckoning is upon us when it comes to Crossfire Hurricane," Graham said. "Former FBI Director James Comey has agreed to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 30th, without a subpoena. I appreciate Mr. Comey coming before the committee. He will be respectfully treated, but asked hard questions. I look forward to this hearing. I think it will be important to the American people."
While US Attorney Jon Durham may be wrapping up his own investigation, the Senate Homeland Security has issued subpoenas to top Obama officials and Justice Department officials in their own probe into Crossfire Hurricane’s origins.
But for Lindsey Graham, he wants to know how the FBI justified Christopher Steele’s dossier as their source to open the investigation. Graham has repeatedly gone after this source as unwarranted to open FISA warrants on Trump campaign officials.
And Graham wants to go further. His committee has also sent an inter to Robert Mueller after new information revealed members of his staff “mistakenly” wiped their phones. Graham said, ""Mr. Mueller has declined the committee’s invitation to appear to explain his report. He says he doesn’t have enough time to prepare. But I’m going to ask the Department of Justice and Inspector General Horowitz to look at this report that members of Mr. Mueller’s team erased information from their devices."
